  1. it was a quick reply and that statment wasnt thought out. but either way 17th pub shouldnt have only the purpose of attracting players. if that was the case it should have trench sets. You simply cannot restrict jav events when your league is jav only, let alone in the middle of a league season. If anything these events should be encouraged. it makes no sense. -pacman
  2. You forget about half of the 17th population that doesnt play pub. I only play 17th for league because i dislike pub settings. So are you telling me i cant ever javwar because there are 20 people in pub? Ludacris. This Zone NEVER has and NEVER will have the population to effectively run public and javwar/jwl at the same time. This is simply a truth. The only exception are planned event days when we get 70+ people, but no one will use events when public itself is an event. If you give such a !@#$%^&* about pub then why even have a jav league? How am i sopposed to practice javwar when its not allowed to be hosted? This is a stupid rule. If pubbers dont like 17th events then maybe they should play elsewhere. -pacman
  3. That site's awesome. I'll try it as soon as i reinstall my gforce (it quit on me yesterday, had to remove it from the pci bus). Unfortuately i lose my internet soon so i'll have to field test it in subspace's old practice zone (should be fun its been a while) but look forward to owning hard from screens away when i get back thanks -pacman
  4. Lol, i lose my internet tomarrow for what could be a few months, so i cant help any of you wouldbe javs for a while. But here are a few brief tips so your not screwed Javs can fire forever if you use about a 1.5 second delay between shots. This is called freefire. You don't recharge while doing this so be wary of that. Ideally this tactic is best used in intervals, 3-4 quick shots, then recharge, then 3-4 more, if your opponent is reeling from the !@#$%^&*ult freefire, keep he/she from recharging so you can get into a position to finish the job. You should only use the jav's natural rate of fire up close when your for sure gonna hit, or to stack your shots for deathblows. You have bombs. The best players have learned how to use bombs effectively. Always fire back, even when your being chased. Keeping your enemy off balance is key. Patience isnt just a virtue its strategy. Get your opponent where you want em, then crush them. Learn to fight effectively flying backwards. A double edged sword can cut deep with either side. Against 2v1 or 3v1 your always going to be on the defensive. But dont focus on escaping, freefire back when you have the energy to in order to thinout the !@#$%^&*ult. Find a wall to setup camp or find a way to counter. I cant count how many times ive lived against 3 people by finding a nice solid wall to bounce off in order to plow through one of the 3, almost always killing at least 1 of them. Ask pros and veterans to help you. Learning on your own can take a very long time, ive played subspace for 4 years (took 2 off) and i still dont pick up on some of the simple things. Dueling hones your skills while playing rumble/javwar/sbl teaches you awareness and to work with others. Do both often. Sorry i can't be around to help you individually, but sometimes it is what it is. Good Luck -pacman
  5. You're 100% right on the monitor. Those specs are the exact model im sitting infront of right now. I tried to find specs for the gforce 2 mx 400 but no resolutions were listed and the original packaging is long gone. Even the drivers on the CD from the purchase are useless. You did mention though that you were able to use 1600x1200 without much to cry about, so it seems the monitor should be able to play with it as long as you dont switch back and forth. I'd still like to try, worst case scenario, i get a new monitor and the problem is still solved. After 6 years its about time anyway Since i use windows 98 i think i'll run through and install older drivers to see if i can find one that will support that resolution, but i dont expect to find anything usefull. As for programs that force resolutions, as of now ive tried dcgenie and 12noon's Res Changer 2.x (wouldnt run the initial menu, so impossible to run the game), both of which did nothing but tie up about 1MB of disk space. Anyone who knows of a program that works please share the wealth. Thanks again. -pacman
  6. lol. i still havnt gotten this name back. I think its been almost 4 years since i used it last. just thought it was funny, dont worry about helping me with it anymore unless your feeling overly chairitable. [edit] Ive read the pinned topic about lost names/passwords that i hadnt read so many months ago when i originally posted this. Sorry to anyone who finds these things annoying [end edit] -pacman

    Match Confusion

C-O beat Fregon today soundly 100-67. It was a good game, i enjoyed playing. It turns out however, although fregon never said a word during the match, Nostromo was 20-40ms over the ping limit. The ref however didnt randomly check lag as he was sopposed to so there was no lag limit. Because of this technicalilty and Fregon's excessive whining about them losing because of 20ms ping on one person (oh my such a travesty), an otherwise good match was ruined and they were granted hastily a rematch without the C-O captian being consulted. Total BS. I don't know everything that happened. But what ive been told is there will be no rematch, however Fregon was awarded 2 points for losing instead of 1. I post this to notify people of the events that took place today. I'm not attacking or bashing staff in anyway although their resolution to the situation left a sour taste in my mouth. They took care of the situation deftly with little confusion. Don't let yourselves be hustled by people. Sometimes whining about lag isnt just whining. I advise all players and staff members to read or re-read the league rules in detail. Only you can prevent forest fires. -pacman
  8. When i first started playing subspace i sucked. But over time and with the help of good players i learned and got better. After my break when i came back to SS, i started here in 17th. I sucked, some of you remember. But with the help of good players and patience, i got better. Some would say im good. Alot of people hate javs, but javs are the lifeblood of 17th parallel. Argue that if you want, but so long as league is jav only, Jav's will forever be so. Sometimes spray and pray just doesnt cut it. It's too bad more players arnt willing to help newbies like in the old days. I offer simple training to anyone who wants to learn how to use a jav. I'm not the best jav in 17th, i dont claim to be, but i know a few things that ive picked up over the years, alot of which give most pros an edge. I dont promise your gonna be better, its up to you to use whatever i can teach you effectivly. If you want to learn how to use the jav join the shaitan chat; ?chat=shaitan Depending on the response i get i'm willing to setup actual times to meet. But mostly PM me when im looking dead or inbetween javwars and rumbles. Im more than happy to help the willing. Talk to me or Denali about the chat (its his chat) and/or if we're available for training. I don't know what he teaches if he even does (although thats why he made the chat). Best of luck. -pacman
  9. Ask loveWAR about the rumble map i keep telling him to test (but fix the settings and tiles first)

    New Pub Map

I think the settings could use a little tweaking, but all in all they make 17th what it is. As for the map, the ?go 17thnew map we used to use every friday was nice, but for the most part the bases were not practical. A couple of the new maps i see are like that too (for instance the one with the east\west bases that cover the entire sides of the map, i forget the arena name). Here's what you do. Leave the settings, and open a pub map creation contest. Anyone can create a map for 17th (keep in mind we're using current pub settings). After all the entries are subited by a deadline chosen by staff, staff can then vote on the 4 best maps to use on friday of each week of the new month. Vote on all the maps and whether or not more of that map would like to be seen. Depending on how its accepted and how reasonable the boys uptop are, you might find yourselves with a new public arena for good.
  11. I use a gForce2 Mx 400 on a 17" vis HP M70 monitor. The maximum resolution i can use in subspace is 1280x1024. I wanna be able to use 1600x1200. 1600x1200 has worked before, but only during a mcafee security center crash. The display was flawless and the framerate was slightly decreased from 314 to about 280 average. Upon seeing this, i got greedy, exited and attempted 20x19 something resolution (21XXx19XX, whatever it is) and the game displayed as 1600x1200 with giant red box in the middle of the screen. 15 seconds later the monitor went into energysave and ever since i havnt been able to use 1600x1200 either. My maximum desktop resolution with the most updated drivers from the nVidia website is 1280x1024. Ive attempted countless times to add 1600x1200 via the nVidia display properties, but each time it claims the resolution cannot be added. However it also does this when i attempt to add a simple resolution like 800x600 or 1024x786, which are already supported by my desktop. I dont want to believe that my graphics card or monitor cant handle 1600x1200 since i used it for a good 10 minuites with no problem at all. Ive scoured the nVidia website but found nothing helpful as far as adding resolutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. -pacman
