just try it with your wireless only.. dont string any cables you dont have to and its always nice to have an extra long cable for special situations that or try a repeater (doubt it will work, but its a long shot) btw: if either of my solutions work, then it HAS to be interference and if you do move it into a hallway, try to mount it on the wall under a table or in a cabinet so its unobtrusive and make sure you get long enough cables so you dont see them along the wall (maybe get cables that match the paint or paint them yourself )

Especially the bulkier/heavier high-performance ones that are classified as "desktop replacements." The lighter/smaller/cuter ones tend to be somewhat lacking in performance. they are more for portability than performance (and space saving as well)
