I'd totally agree. Really, it would be nice if any particular username could own only 1 squad at a time.

Yes, you're completely right on that. If Continuum were still being updated, it would be a huge benefit. Call me a pessimist, but I don't see any of the alternate Subspace clients ever being completed and surpassing Continuum. It's a real shame that Priitk stopped development on Continuum. He only added a few Continuum-unique things before giving up.

Everyone knows that Subspace in general is dying a slow and painful death. How are we going to fix that? It really is something that needs to be done sooner than later, because at this point we still have a somewhat decent playerbase. In Trench Wars, we have a bunch of people putting effort into leagues, the websites, etc but all this is doing is trying to maintain the playerbase of mouldy 5+ year players and it's not exactly going to bring anyone new into the game. Nothing is really going on to bring in and keep new players. There is a list of new players to TW here: http://twd.trenchwars.org/newplayers By new players, it means names that have no existing altnick (matching IP or MID) so they could possibly be from other zones, and obviously it hasn't been updated in a few weeks. The thing is, that's a pretty ridiculous turn over rate for new players. We don't have a shortage of new players coming into the game- that's 100 in 4-5 days, but very few of those become repeat customers. This may say more about TW than anything else, but I'm sure other zones probably have a similar scenario going on. Our core playerbase consists mostly of long term players, and very few newer players. Are there any ongoing advertising projects? It would be awesome if we could get SS on the front page of digg, although that's probably not likely to happen. How can we save this game from dying out? Is it even possible these days, when we have Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, etc? I'm worried that TW populations will drop low enough that PriitK will pull the plug on the server, and regardless of your opinion of the zone, that would probably be a death blow to the game. Or does anyone even care anymore?

A down server does not mean he stopped supporting it... And from what I read on MGB, it seems to be back online. It's the first time I hear about his server being down since Starlight is being used, so it's not that bad Well, to me it sounded like he'd just shut the server off and turned it back on because someone asked him to. Anyway, I have had Starlight running on a Linux-based VPS and it's been rock solid, which was kind of surprising because I was expecting crash bugs, etc. I have a session usage of 42 hours right now. It's actually pretty sweet on a VPS: you can just leave it running all the time and connect to your server with a VNC connection to access it whenever you want, which is exactly what I wanted to do and is perfect for an eternal idler like myself. I know not many would even want to do this, but I do. It's even better than the Continuum chat because it has timestamps, and obviously works better for this purpose than using Continuum via Wine just for the chat. Oh, and if anyone at all is in contact with Snrrrub, a Linux build of Starlight 1.3 would be highly appreciated. <:-)

Is there any other place this can be downloaded? Or is there any chance someone who still has this could upload it to rapidshare or something? The link in the original post is dead.

Blah. Are there any decent chat clients that will run under Linux? Even if they require vip.txt It's a shame he went through so much trouble to make this chat client and then stopped supporting it.

I've tried this on both Windows 7 and Linux (Ubuntu) and I can't connect to any zones. I can see the list of zones fine, but it will not connect to anything. My goal is to have this running on a Linux VPS, I got it to run but connecting to zones is another matter. On the Windows machine I totally disabled the firewall just to see, and it still didn't work. I can connect and play using Continuum fine, but Starlight is a no go.

At this moment there are 600+ (let's say 100 of those are bots) players online in all SSC zones. That may not even be close to what populations once were, but the game is nowhere near dead. With that many people still playing we still have the opportunity to gain new players and rebuild populations. I'm not sure how, but with an established and solid player base it can still be done. Obviously, killing off an established zone that still draws 100+ players is counter-productive to helping the game grow. I don't know who pays for DSB's server, and if it's Hoch then he has every right to discontinue paying for it, but to go a step further and pull a stunt like disallowing anyone else to run the zone is nothing less than ridiculous. I'll bet PriitK would be fine with hosting DSB on the server that runs Trench Wars and 17th Parallel, and the server itself could certainly handle it. Why not swallow your pride and do what the players would want? Let it be hosted elsewhere and let a trusted DSB staff member take over as sysop. If DSB just disappears I'll bet that most of the long-time players will just completely quit; they won't migrate to other zones. Just outright killing DSB is like sticking a shank in Subspace's ribs.

Cont. freezes when clicking on any menu item

I solved the problem... it was a problem with a desktop theme I was using in XP. I changed it recently and now all the menus work, so I assume that was causing it. -

I installed SP2 and there is no change in the problem. -
In the main menu, if I click on any menu option such as Game, View, Navigate, etc, the list just starts to show up and then freezes the entire program. The only way to get rid of it is to press Ctrl Alt Delete and close the program like that. How can I fix this? I tried to reinstall the game and it still does it. I'm running Windows XP Hope with SP1 installed.

I am trying to send a .wav message in a macro... I go to the alt tab macro thing, click the "wav" button on F11 and locate my wav file. When I press the macro in-game, it just goes %W%C:\Program Files\Continuum\sound\terrodown.wav but doesn't do anything. I tried to message that to a person but it didn't work either. How exactly do you send a .wav message?
