God, possibly. So, what's everyone doing nowadays? I think the days for bring 17th back are long gone - there are still a few who check in with SS/Continuum in general, and this forum once in a blue moon, but we'd never get more than a handful online. Maybe we can find each other on Steam/XB Live/PSN, though, and play other games together? If you ever see Audigex around in the gaming world, that's probably me.
-
Programming is no fun in Python anyway - if there are no pointers to cock up, there's nowhere to waste 10 hours a week hunting that missing dereference.
-
Is this going anywhere? As always with Continuum nowadays I'm going with the "I'll believe it when I see it" theme, but it sounds like it could be fun to play with a dozen people - as long as you don't add too much scope too early. It's the sort of idea you could kill by giving the early adopters too much to do and making it into basically a single player where you see someone else every 100 hours.
-
There's still a fair few of us who check in occasionally - I probably appear every couple of months... but I was wondering how often we all turn up. Once in a while someone tries to get the zone going with an event, but oftentimes by the time I've seen it the date's been and gone. However if they make the date too long, we end up with the first people forgetting. Drop a quick post in here every time you come on, if you can be arsed, and we can see who drops in to take a look but doesn't have anything to post on. So yeah, obviously I'm here...

I was never in Pie Squad or even 4U In fact, I can't remember what squads I was in, anyone remember any other names?

I know, you flinched when you saw the word "settings" in the 17th forum. The topic has been discussed to death, repeatedly. This topic is a 4-times reincarnated hindu zombie cat. Well, sorry, I've performed a little CPR on the 9th life, and it's still with us for at least the duration of this post. However I noticed that, and it may not have been the only factor, when we had the last population spike - ie enough to have pub running for a few hours a night, the old settings were in place. Once the new settings were re-instated, the population vanished. Could it be that the old settings are more fun for low pub numbers? Is that because there are a couple of fast-kill options - namely the weasel, which is hours of fun. How about doubling the damage (/halving energy and recharge rates) on the old settings and putting them in place for a while? It's worth a go, right?
-
Have you ever noticed that... If you leave the spider on multi-fire and hold control, the "low energy" firing rythm fits perfectly with the beat to "drops of jupiter" by train? No, I didn't think you had :-)
-
We had a population for about a week, happening a week or two ago with the "old" setts which then faded out as the new setts came into play. Now, read into that what you like, it may have been to do with the setting change: Alternatively it may be that the first couple of days were 2-4 pop, the 3 days after were up to 16, then the few days after were down to 8,5,3 and 0 again. So yeah, whether it was the settings or just that people had a fun couple of days but couldn't all be on at similar times again, I don't know. One thing we've learned during 17ths coma-period is that there's plenty of people who will play if they see a pop, but most won't bother unless there's 3/4 in the zone already.
-
Moi, but I appear to be the only one around. What happened to the 10-15 pop in the evenings we had last week?
-
We've had an unusually large amount of activity in the last few days. Averages of 5-6 playing in pub, with a max zone pop of about 16-18. It tends to be occuring between about 4pm-2am GMT (11am-9pm EST) if anyone wants a few hours of 17th, hoping that it lasts for a few more days. (Well, hoping it lasts for a few years)

The emphasis in the past always seemed to be related to fixing the old site, rather than making a new one. Good job ste :-)

Wait, you think it wouldn't work on Vista basic because it's a little simpler? This thing worked on 98/ME at the very least, and most likely 95 for all I remember, surely any modern OS should be able to handle it? The fact it opens the game suggests it's fine apart from the connection; which the OS variety doesn't have a huge amount to do with. Most vista versions use the same basic networking system, just enterprise and ultimate get a few more frills. I'd point the finger at your hardware, either some interference on your wireless or the router complaining, or a firewall/antivirus etc. -
Ours is very un-restricted. They're running a trial this year where you can run literally almost anything, they just refuse to support anything other than windows+mac PCs, and have told us that if the police come calling they'll tell them who was downloading. Torrents, games, XBOX live/ps3/wii, skype, apache servers (although not allowed, do work)... I've yet to find anything that won't work so far. The problem for CTM is that it uses different ports for each zone, so I guess a couple must just catch the few ranges that are blocked. Some are reserved for internal useage such as email etc. 100/60 (down/up) Mbit/sec connection, lots of fun :-)

Ah yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Think I was thinking of the TW weasel of old. And yeah, 2002-3 was the time I started playing SS, so my knowledge of the sets is from that time and later. Still - the 2003 setts were better :-)
