Ryo-ohki Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 My problem is I can't get Continuum to load up. After I click on the program to start it up... It can't seem to even do anything other than load.... This takes up about 20-40% of system resources. This problem isn't because of a firewall or proxy. I have tried to start up the program without any internet, at all. I use: Athlon XP 2500+Platinum 160GB Hard DriveATi Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB768MB PC2700 RAMBiostar motherboard with nvidia nForce 2 chipsetWindows XP Professional /w Service Pack 2 I know that this isn't a fault of Windows XP Service Pack 2, but I only started having this problem after I installed it. It had worked just fine without the Service Pack 2 upgrade. The reason I know it's not because of that, is because I have seen other computers do the same thing on Windows 98. I have tried compatibility modes. Uninstalling continuum and reinstalling into a new directory. Scanned with spyware programs such as Ad-Aware SE Professional 1.05 and Spybot Search & Destroy. If anyone has any idea on the problem and how to fix it, I would be greatful if someone were to help. [Edit]When I said it won't even p!@#$%^&* the splash screen...I meant it won't even show it. Guest Guest Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Do a system checkpoint. I dunno. Quote
Trained Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Do A system chckpoint to kill the upgrade. Btw, Guest was me, oops Quote
Ryo-ohki Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 It's a bit to late for a system restore. I have formated and installed service pack 2 in October. But what I want to know is if there is a way to fix this problem. Quote
»Maverick Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Try updating video drivers, maybe even soundcard drivers Quote
Ryo-ohki Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 No, that won't work. I already have the best drivers for my video and sound cards. Quote
Ryo-ohki Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 Alright... I have found out how to fix it... And I don't know how or why this works but... Right-click continuum -> Run as... -> OkAnd thats all there is to it.... Quote
Bargeld Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 It's a permissions issue?Your user may not have access to write to certain resources (total guess.) But on the other hand, I have seen Continuum run in a 'read-only' directory and the only problems were that it wouldn't remember macro settings or passwords (if told to save) etc. because it can't rewrite profile.dat macros.dat etc. Quote
Ryo-ohki Posted December 10, 2004 Author Report Posted December 10, 2004 Well... Playing Continuum like this after using that method to start it out is pretty annoying. Everytime I quit a zone, I have to re-enter all of the data that I have inputed (Profiles/Zone/Macros, etc. etc.). Yet that is the only way I can find to run it. Quote
Bargeld Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Right click the game's directory (C:\Program Files\Continuum) and click 'properties'. Click the checkbox next to 'read-only' a couple times until it goes on/off at least once. Leave it UN-CHECKED. Quote

Fixing that might fix the problem. (Somehow I doubt that though, but still...) Quote

»Maverick Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 It also might be a problem with your HD. Strange problems (like yours) can happen if its not correctly formatted or the FAT table is corrupt. Do you know if you are using FAT / FAT32 or NTFS file system?(To check; check the properties of your Local Disk (C:), tab General, File system: ) Quote
Ryo-ohki Posted December 12, 2004 Author Report Posted December 12, 2004 I used to have my Hard Drive set in FAT32, but even so I still had the problem after I installed Service Pack 2 (But I know it's not service pack 2 itself). Anyway, I use NTFS. Quote
»Maverick Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 tried this? http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic...indpost&p=82364 Quote
Ryo-ohki Posted December 12, 2004 Author Report Posted December 12, 2004 Yeah, that doesn't seem to work either. Quote
Guest Burk Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 I have the same problem. I am running Windows XP with SP2 and have tried everything. When i open the properties for the .exe file the readonly checkbox contains a square. I have tried to remove it but without success. Does this matter?? I am administrator without any restrictions Quote
Ryo-ohki Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 Okay, I'm not sure if you want to do this, but here is the solution. I believe that the problem is Service Pack 2 being incompatible with some other programs, but for some reason, this affects Continuum. What I did is I did a format. Second, I installed all of my drivers and installed Service Pack 2 (I'd recommend not installed any programs unless they are necessary until after Service Pack 2). Then, you want to make a System Restore and install the programs you want. If you install a program that causes Continuum to have an endless process, then just do a system restore (uninstalling won't work for some reason). And that's about it (I used FAT32, but I'm sure that won't matter ). Now, the two programs that I found not to work (so far), are Spysweeper and Tune-Up Utilities 2004. This way worked for me, but don't blame me if it doesn't. Quote
Guest BDwinsAlt. Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 I know you gusy don't want to think it's Sp2. But if your running Home Edition of XP, SP2 casuing internet connection problems i know that. So i recommend if ur using home unsiatll sp2 and use sp1. But i am on windows 98 on this comp and i don't have as much experiance on an xp operating system. Quote
