darkhosis Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 i was under the impression that nick fischer (aka trixter) purchased the rights to subspace. maybe that was just a rumor, or he tried to and it never happened. i know he was the CEO of brainscan (infantry).. http://www.zoominfo.com/people/Fisher_Nick_3322974.aspx anyway, here he is now http://offender.doc.state.wi.us/public/sea...%3Dsearchbyname zing i used to be on his squad, ONE. i still have him in my ICQ =) probably hasnt logged on in a while though...haha Dark, can you link me to that other website that shows him as a sex offender, the one that's more detailed. Lists all the charges/release/etchaha ok found it: http://wcca.wicourts.gov/caseDetails.do;js...ew+Case+Details and then you can see the ones that it is cross-referenced too http://wcca.wicourts.gov/caseDetails.do;js...ew+Case+Details (case dismissed, "sex with child 16 or over", when he was 25. thats not too bad i guess. probably some 16 or 17 yr old that was consensual but still against the law)... but it does show a pattern haha.. i bet there were lots of others until he finally got arrested. i never woulda guessed it. i mean back in '95 (when he was charged for this) I was playing with him in Subspace, in the same squad even.
X`terrania Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 @root you don't even know him Poor guy.. I wonder if he's lost any weight, and I wonder when he'll pay off the 70$ he owes to the court.
Aceflyer Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 And so where's the proof this person owns rights to Subspace? The provided reference [1] seems rather flaky.
JDS Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Just act like no one owns the rights and we are free to do what ever we want with continuum. Cus' that would be the funniest thing if someone tried a lawsuit for subspace merchandise. And if there was legal action, we'd get like 1000 new players from all the publicity
»Lynx Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 He doesn't have the rights to Subspace, it says he's taken interest, that's all... Anyway, I was always under the impression that B Divine bought the rights to SS/Continuum as a whole.
darkhosis Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/1445/trixterwq5.png here he is in more pleasant days.. see, that's Subspace on computer.. AOL teen chat room in background. Trixter buys SS - [Mine GO BOOM] August 27, 1999 It is true. Trixter has boughten SubSpace from VIE UK. As of now, no one really knows what he is going to do with it, but i hope it is for the better of the players. If not, we lived when VIE shutdown. More info later. That's from shanky. I remember there were lots of rumors, so I'm not really sure. He was the producer for "Harmless Games" which made Infantry... the same programmers that did SS, rod humble and jeff peterson.

Does that mean he bought the license only? Or did he get all the original source code and all?
»Lynx Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Does anybody know the story of what BDivine got, because I'm sure he has rights over something... PriitK needs to put all changes to SS through BD first... I heard... from a lot of people...
Sass Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Hey!!http://www.beamesderfer.net/works/temp/keychain.jpg its a spoof
Aceflyer Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 I'm still slightly skeptical. Especially as I've never heard of this guy actually doing anything with his supposed rights to Subspace; he should be head of the Council or something, if this were true. Couldn't he or someone else have simply faked some evidence to show to MGB? I'd prefer to see some mention of this on some news site or something, because as far as I know, no one ever bought Subspace from VIE.
Hakaku Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Trixter doesn't exactly fit in the picture. He evidently showed interest in buying the rights to SubSpace, but no one has ever been able to officially confirm this. One theory claims that he managed to buy off the rights to SubSpace, but ended up selling them to BDE. The other is that he never succesfully bought off the rights, which goes back to my version of the story (which is largely based on old threads found on SSForums, Server Help forums, this pdf, wikipedia, and a lot of google searching). My recollection of ancient SS history is that Trixter never successfully bought the rights to SS, although he apparently tried multiple times. IIRC, they first went to Westwood Studios when VIE US was dismantled, and then Westwood sold off a bunch of assets to BDE, who now owns them. But don't take that as authoritative. A while back, a company with various names (I think one of them was Horizon something) claimed they were making SS2, apparently with BDE's permission. But they're long gone by now too.The most I could come up with is that at some point some guy named Nick Fisher (a CEO of a publishing company who worked with harmless games (now a porn site) which made infantry) who went by the name Trixter purchased the rights and then at some future time a company by the name of Brilliant Digital Entertainment obtained the rights (both sources found on http://www.shanky.com/server/indexold.html). Apparently vie.co.uk is currently owned by a german company called Avalon Interactive, but thier site has nothing other than a brief history of VIE (they also own vie.com).Trixter buys SS - [Mine GO BOOM] August 27, 1999 It is true. Trixter has boughten SubSpace from VIE UK. As of now, no one really knows what he is going to do with it, but i hope it is for the better of the players. If not, we lived when VIE shutdown. More info later.Problem in the first quote is that Westwood studios was bought by Virgin Interactive in 1992, and was later acquired by Electronic Arts in 1998 (were SubSpace acquired by EA, the servers would have went down in August rather than December). In the second one, Harmless Games was never even associated with SubSpace, but rather that's where "members of the SubSpace development team banded together afterwards to form Harmless Games LLC" (creating Infantry et al.) In the third, it is contradicted by the following statement by JeffP himself :"...the company that actual owns the rights Ozaq2 is actually a seperate company that happens to be owned by the same guys who own BDE. Ozaq2 was created for the sole purpose of managed VIE US assets after they dissolved. The Ozaq2 owners are business guys as best as I can tell. They aren't game developers per se, just managing the intellectual property. Their sole purpose in doing the deal was to be able to do things such as re-license properties. Given that, their current move to actively do something with subspace does seem a little surprising. They didn't buy the VIE US assets for the purpose of getting subspace though...subspace is just one of the many things that came along with the deal."And now for an interview with BDE themselves:http://web.archive.org/web/20000929110715/...q.com/bde.shtml
